Simply Rhino Grasshopper Level Two Training

Grasshopper - Level 2

3 Day Certified Class

'Advancing your Parametric Knowledge Data trees, Form-Finding and Meshes'

Objectives
  • The aim of this course is to provide you with an in-depth understanding of Grasshopper3D and two of its main plugins, Kangaroo and Weaverbird, giving you a full grasp of parametric modelling, form finding and mesh manipulation. Throughout the course, we will look at the underlying logic behind Grasshopper, including its complex data tree structure, irregular surface paneling, meshes modelling and genetic algorithm. We will also look at physics simulation and optimisation through Kangaroo, including planarization, form-finding and bending forces to reproduce material behaviour within the parametric model and create construction-aware geometry. We will look at mesh subdivision with Weaverbird to model tree-like structures. We will also show you how to develop your own set of tools through user objects.

Your Class
  • Although the class is based on a pre-defined schedule, each class is always different depending on the audience and requests happening throughout. We will make sure that the class matches your expectation and ambitions with the software. Most importantly, we want you to leave the class inspired and ready to use and create with the software at all stages of design.

Class Prerequisites
  • The class is aimed at people who have already undertaken our Grasshopper level 1 course or use Grasshopper in their work on a daily basis. It is also preferable to have an intermediate level in Rhinoceros. Although Grasshopper is mostly used for design, the class is about parametric thinking and workflow and therefore is not addressed at a specific profession. Over the past several years of delivering GHL2 we have had architects, engineers, industrial designers, jewellery designers, contractors, project managers and artists attending the class.

3 Day Certified Class

'Improving your Workflow using Parametric Tools'

Class Objectives
  • The aim of this course is to improve your workflow with Grasshopper3D and to give you an overall understanding of parametric thinking. We will explore all the native tools of Grasshopper and their relationship to Rhinoceros as well as their data structure and general concepts such as data types, data matching and lists. Grasshopper being a visual programming platform, the course will take you on a journey through mathematics, algorithms and computer science and explain applied examples of concepts such as vector geometry and trigonometry. We will show examples from the real world and try to reproduce them to confront you with real-life scenarios.

  • The class is aimed at complete beginners in Grasshopper and parametric thinking but it is preferable to have an intermediate level in Rhinoceros. Although Grasshopper is mostly used for design, the class is about parametric thinking and workflow and therefore is not addressed at a specific profession. Over the past several years of delivering GHL1 we had architects, engineers, industrial designers, jewellery designers, contractors, project managers and artists attending the class.

What our students say: 'I just wanted to say how pleased I was with the Grasshopper course. I thought it was excellent value due to the quality of tuition, the location and the way it was run. Arthur is a fantastic teacher and considering the complexity of the subject all the topics were covered at a good pace and in great detail. I hope to come back and enroll on the Level 2 as soon as I am able.'  Zak Kurtha (Grasshopper L1 with Arthur - November 2015)

Rhino3d for Architects & Engineers

3 Day Certified Rhino Training Class

Outline Description

This course is aimed at architectural and engineering professionals who are looking to use Rhino with more efficiency, accuracy and confidence. Suitable for architects; structural engineers, urban designers, building envelope engineers, and landscape architects amongst others, this course introduces and explains industry standard Rhino workflows.

Completely revised and updated for Rhino v6, this course contains both intermediate and advanced content, the balance of which can be adjusted to suit attendees. Although the class follows a clearly defined structure there is scope for trainees to discuss individual work examples and workflows.

This comprehensive, three-day course starts with a brief introduction as to how, when and why Rhino is used in professional architectural studios. A Rhino refresher then follows before the course moves on to discuss NURBS topology in detail. The aim is to deliver a core understanding of the principals of NURBS so that both the advantages and limitations of the topology can be utilized in building clean, efficient and editable geometry. These principals are then put into practice with several architectural exercises during which a range of tools and strategies are utilised.

The course then progresses through the structure as outlined below and finishes with an Introduction to Grasshopper.
