Overview

HDR Light Studio offers a dedicated solution for your lighting workflow.
 

With HDR Light Studio you can light your shots faster, with more creativity and to a higher standard.

Using HDR Light Studio means you remove any guesswork and eliminate long and tedious set up times from your lighting process.

Your existing 3D software uses the light you create within HDR Light Studio to light your final render.

General

  • HDR Canvas - instant rendering and spherical mapping of placed light sources.
  • Linear workspace.
  • Light brightness calibration - 100w = brightness value of 1.

Interface

  • Canvas Guide Lines - Cubic, Lat-long, Off.
  • Canvas Preview Exposure Slider.

  • Properties: Watts, Bulb Length, Bulb Position, Falloff (including custom falloff gradient with cosine, bezier, flat and step interpolation - with optional log transform), falloff ends inside or outside the light extent, Opacity, Solid Color, Color Gradient, Inverse, Half, Blend modes - Add, Solid, Amplify, Color and Saturation.

SunShade node

  • Clamp the brightness of underlying canvas content.
  • Properties: Watts (max wattage it will let through), Opacity.
  • This node is not spherically distorted. Width and height are % of canvas space.

 

Background Settings

  • Custom HDR vertical gradient - independent luminosity and color ramps, peak wattage global brightness multiplier for brightness values.
  • HDRI background - supports HDR or EXR files with a ration of 2:1.
  • Properties: Longitude rotation, degree and minute accuracy. % brightness multiplier. Color from source or colorize. Longitude flip option.
  • Transparent background - EXR output only.

 

Color

  • Hue Saturation color picking area.
  • Color tuning grid - 7x7 grid with choice of scale between swatch color steps.
  • Value slider to adjust brightness.
  • Drag and drop color into 20 buckets, these colors are saved with project.
  • Kelvin Color Temperature Picker and 20 color temp presets.
  • Numeric Color Input - sRGB, HSV, CIE-XYZ, CIE-LAB.
  • Match color of other solid lights on the canvas.
  • Select colors in HDR background - Point or average with Rect and Lasso. Hue Saturation displays only colors found in HDR image.
  • Display HDR images by HSV, Color mode (HS) show true colors of HDRI, Dominance mode reveals true color of brightest areas of HDRI, Coverage mode reveals most used colors in HDRI.
  • Select color in LDR and reference HDR images with the same tool set.

 

Render Output

  • Fast preview option - one sample per pixel for a faster render.
  • Show guides option - includes the Lat-Long guides within the final render output.
  • Production render output options: HDR or EXR file formats or Live, pushing hi-res data into LiveLight or Live plugin app.
  • Output transformation settings - Select a host and renderer, rotation/flip settings will be applied to the canvas design for correct alignment in 3rd party software.
  • With gradient background set - choose from render resolution presets from the drop down or by clicking on the preview pane, or set an unlimited custom resolution in the drop down specifying image width.
  • Output render resolution is locked to the HDRI background resolution when a HDR background is used.

 

HDR Light Studio File formats

  • HDR Light Studio project files are saved as .HDi files. HDi files are not backwards compatible with earlier releases of HDR Light Studio.
  • Picture Light packs are .hdp files

 

LiveLight

  • Loads Collada, Mental Images (up to Autodesk 2013 products) and OBJ files.
  • Zup/Yup direction set on the fly.
  • Background: the HDRI lighting, solid color, image (8 bit jpeg, tif and bmp files).
  • Floor shadow: Optional fake floor shadow generated on at lowest point on loaded model.
  • Choose from the cameras within the Collada or Mental Images file.
  • LightCam - creates a connected camera view looking from the location of a selected light.
  • Render modes: Reflections, Illumination and Combined.
  • Gloss, Satin or Metallic reflections.
  • Gamma setting

 

LightPaint in LiveLight

  • Position and select lights based on the Reflection or Illumination position.
  • Place lights directly on the HDR design seen in the background of LiveLight using Rim mode.
  • FilmBack navigation - pan and zoom the LiveLight view in LightPaint mode to light details.

Rhino 5 for Windows runs on ordinary Windows desktop and laptop computers, with:
